Abstract:
The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of the hydrology of a rewetted riverine fen and the interactions between the water balance of the wetland and the discharge regime of the bordering river. The focus of this research is an analysis of the different parts of hydraulic cycle – e.g. evapotranspiration of the main vegetation types, reed and willow. Additionally the groundwater model FEFLOW was used to characterise the groundwater balance. The researched fen itself is an old peat cutting area which is located in a typical riverine fen of the German northeast lowlands, along the river Warnow. This survey is based on an extensive in situ measurement program within the study site. The meteorological measurement setup included all input parameters for the use of Penman-Monteith equation. All parameters were measured in the field with a time slice of 15 minutes, additionally rainfall and wind speed. The hydrological measurements included diurnal fluctuations of groundwater level, soil moisture and tension with the same short time interval. This presentation will show the results of estimation evapotranspiration, groundwater modelling and extracts of the process analysis, e.g. influences of the oasis and clothes line effects on the high rates of evapotranspiration.
