Abstract: The certification and labelling of organic farming play a crucial role in ensuring the authenticity of organic products. However, the complex regulatory systems associated with organic farming pose challenges, particularly for small-scale producers in developing countries. Issues such as bureaucratic regulations, documentation requirements, access to organic seeds, and mislabelling of products hinder the growth of organic agriculture. In response, alternative food production systems, including agroecology, regenerative agriculture, permaculture and biodynamic farming, have emerged. These systems focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, biodiversity conservation, and the promotion of natural cycles. While they share common values with organic farming, these alternative systems offer flexible and innovative approaches to agriculture. Agroecology emphasizes ecological and social aspects, regenerative agriculture prioritizes the regeneration of natural resources, permaculture adopts a design-oriented approach, and biodynamic farming incorporates spiritual perspectives and specific preparations to enhance soil health and plant growth.
