Abstract: This paper describes a method to standardize metadata for precision agriculture datasets by using and extending the common Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). An Internet based utility for collecting, changing and providing metadata elements will be presented. Interested parties can download the extension files and metadata examples for there own data management. Finally a precision agriculture profile in German and English was developed and will be provided as a DTD to validate XML-metadata files. The development of standardized and easy to use metadata elements should improve the interoperability between precision agricultural software products and support automated data retrieval and exchange mechanism.
