Abstract: With the increasing demand for fishery and aquaculture products in the world, the production of these goods is also generally expanding. For the aquaculture-relevant species Clarias gariepinus, rearing and grow-out conditions under near-industrial settings were evaluated and improved based on scientific studies. Moreover, the use of this fish species in a sustainable aquaponics system offers further advantages. The optimization of this synergetic relationship between fish and plants through special micronutrient fertilizers was further progressed through this work. The results showed that different stocking densities during rearing and grow-out phases of C. gariepinus are variably beneficial depending on the growth stage. The fish could successfully be conditioned to new feeding times through light management, improving feed intake without increasing stress indicators such as cortisol. Warm light colors promoted better body condition and activity, while blue light components triggered stress reactions. The fish also showed high sensitivity to sound and vibrations. The influence of chemical micronutrient fertilizers (Zn-EDTA and Fe-DTPA) in process water indicated that plant-relevant concentrations are unproblematic. However, a dilution ratio of 1:4 is recommended for juvenile fish during the rearing phase. Ansprechpartner Weitere Information im WWW
