Abstract: This paper describes a method to standardize metadata for precision agriculture data sets by using and extending the common Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata. An Internet based utility for collecting, changing and providing metadata elements will be presented. Interested parties can download the extension files and metadata examples for their own data management. Finally, a precision agriculture profile in German and English was developed and will be provided as a Data Type Definition to validate metadata files in eXtensible Markup Language. The development of standardized and easy to use metadata elements should improve the interoperability between precision agricultural software products and support automated data retrieval and exchange mechanism.
