Projektbeschreibung:
This study aims to develop alternative methods to control stored product pests like Ephestia elutella, Ephestia cautella, Cryptolestes ferrugineus and Carpophilus hemipterus with toxic gases, especially with sulfuryl fluoride, under different climatic conditions.
Sulfuryl fluoride (SO2F2) is an effective structural fumigant to control storage pests as an alternative for the use of methyl bromide (CH3Br) which will be phased out in industrialised countries at the end of 2004, according to the Montreal Protocol. This study will enlarge the knowledge of SF and its application under vacuum and normal atmospheric pressure.
The research comprises eggs, larvae, pupae and adults of different storage pest insects, chiefly occurring in dried figs, raisins, hazel nuts and pistachios. These commodities are very important export crops for instance of Turkey. The results will be statistically processed. The experiments are carried out under the guidance of the German Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry in Berlin, Institute for Stored Product Protection.
